2008 Filly Raffle Winner Announced
The Deep South Peruvian Horse Club held its filly and feed raffle at their show in Jackson , Mississippi on Sunday, March 30th. Twelve year-old Colbee Lloyd of Madison, Mississippi was the lucky winner. Colbee very recently started taking riding lessons from DSPHC member, Karen McCord. After three short weeks of hard work and practice, Colbee chose to compete in junior classes at the show.
Colbee purchased 6 tickets for the filly and insisted from the start that she was going to be the winner. She urged her Dad to complete the fence he was currently building for her older brother’s horse so she would have a place to keep it. Unbeknownst to Colbee, her sisters Kayla and Katie later purchased one additional ticket with $5 each of their own money on her behalf.
On Sunday, Judge Kim Montee drew the winning ticket and handed it to Board Member, Pam Bailey. Pam’s expression and sudden look to the stands where Colbee and her family were sitting said it all. After her name was announced, Colbee quickly jumped from her seat and made her way to the arena floor. With a huge smile, tears of joy and shaky hands, she was presented her new filly, AJL Santa Rita plus certificates for a six month supply of feed from Nutrena®. It was later confirmed that the winning ticket was the one that had been purchased by her sisters.
As an additional bonus, Colbee walked away with the Reserve Junior High Point Award (2nd Place Overall in the 12 and Under Age Division). Judge Montee observed, “Some kids just have a natural ability to ride and connect with horses. Colbee is completely relaxed, sits great in the saddle and is definitely a natural. I hope to see her in more shows.”
Colbee’s dad, Curtis Lloyd, with a big smile was quoted as saying, “With four kids and college, what’s another horse? I came to terms a long time ago that I will probably never retire.”

Colbee and her family meet AJL Santa Rita. Rita was generously donated by Allen J. LeBlanc. The six month supply of feed was donated by Nutrena.
